Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

The best solution to the problem of #PlasticCarryBags is by cutting down on the source. Enforce a complete #ban on the production. Over a period of time once the producion completely drains out, the consumers won't have any option but to use alternate ways like cloth bags. And increase the fine to show the seriousness.

First of all govt must put a control on manufacturing of plastic bags and only those bags which are recyclable should be allowed. Govt should put heavy penalty on plastic usage on both seller and buyer.

Instead of banning, plastics must be crushed to powder and used in construction. High proportion of plastic in construction material will make it inflammable, but reasonable proportion mixed with cement, asphalt etc. can give required elasticity and packing for construction. Government constructions must begin using this and then show the example for others to adopt.

In a Sabji mandi near my place, the vendors still use plastic bags and when I asked why you are using, as these are banned. His reply was jo aayega yaha ban karne, wo pit k jayega. Now how to stop such people?? They are getting also because someone is manufacturing them.

Ban of plastic bags is good initiative by government for our environment. But everywhere in shopping malls, banning means they will charge for polybags nowonwards .this is not the solution. Let the production of polybags be banned and think of other alternative when it comes to shopping in super markets.

Dear leaders, Banning the plastic bags or etc will not stop the people to use them. It is our responsibility to show the alternative in place and also needs to stop the production of the bags. Government should also show some alternative and profitable way to producer. So that they will not try to sell in secrete that again will circulate in city. Strict instructions should be provided to malls etc to replace plastic bas with cloth/paper/Jute bags. We could take help of small scale industry

Very Simple Solution for this is to Ban the production of Plastic bags/Cups/Plates etc. Once there is a ban in production people will find very existing way to use. Such as, Cloth Bags/Steal Cup/Plates etc. it might be expensive for few people so low cost Bags/cups/plates need to be introduce.

Plastic carry bags can be used very effectively in construction industry. As no easly usable & cost effective packing medium is available, plastic carry bags cannot be banned effectively. I have Govt. approved effective solution for utilisng waste plastic in construction industry by making plastic reinforced construction materials like paving blocks solid blocks etc which will last longer. This low cost construction materials can do away the plastic menace for ever.
