Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Share your ideas and opinions on how to increase the demand for Indian silk in the country as well as abroad by exploring new products, designs, markets, fashion, trends, promotion measures, target groups, etc.

Need to setup exhibitions were silk products can be sold. sellers must be provided a shop 10x10 feet each, free of cost. This exhibition must be conducted in every district atleast once every 3 months. Sellers must be directly silk growers/weavers. Organizers must collect the entry fee to the exhibition rs.5 per person. Government must absorb the cost of exhibition infrastructure for 1st 2 times in every district.subsequently an association of sellers must be formed and asked to take it forward

GOVT. HAS TO SET THEIR PRIORITIES RIGHT AND STICK TO BASICS, BASICS IS FOOD, ELECTRICITY, DRINKING WATER, EDUCATION, HOUSING, SANITATION, ROADS, JOBS, CORRUPTION & POPULATION CONTROL, E-GOVERNANCE, TRANSPARENCY AND EFFICIENCY IN THE SYSTEM. YOU CANNOT WASTE 3000-4000 CRORES IN MAKING A STATUE, 100 FEET STATUE IS ENOUGH

INDIA IS 2ND LARGEST PRODUCER OF WHEAT , RICE, POTATOES IN THE WORLD, BUT SEE THE PRICING WHEAT 30/- RICE 45/-, POTATOES 40/-, INDIA IS A BIG STORY OF MIS MANAGEMENT OF THINGS WITH GOVT. NOT TAKING ANY ACTION AS FAR AS POLICY MAKING IS CONCERNED. GOVT. JOB IS TO MAKE POLICIES ONLY AND MONITOR THEM STRICTLY. COMMON MAN DOES'NT HAVE BASIC NEEDS LIKE FOOD, ELECTRICITY, DRINKING WATER, SANITATION, HOUSING, EDUCATION, JOBS, AFTER 65 YEARS, WHAT WE WILL DO INCREASING SILK PRODUCTION.

In olden families rooted in tradition( in Tamilnadu) would not buy silk fabrics straight from textile shops. They used to actually go to the silk weaving centers like Kanchipuram etc, interact with the weavers, see the silk sarees &dhoties and after judging the quality, prices etc place their orders.I think seeing is believing! If people( abroad) see how exactly the traditional weavers go about their jobs in creating a work of art( silk fabrics) then they will move to the next step of buying them.

There is huge subsidy given in agriculture on loan in the form of kissan credit card. Like LPG cylinder in kcc also one house is getting 3-4 loans for the sake of subsidy. So govt should make policy of one house one subsidised loan in kcc also. It well help to reduce subsidy burden.

In this digital world the best way to promote the demand of Indian silk is marketing through media. It plays a strong role in terms of communication in all subjects. Today we have lots of brands & their products which we use all because of marketing & media. If these both come together for Indian silk products for sure we will achieve this target. More people will have access & knowledge about our silk heritage in India.

On inflation. . Governments always talk about bringing the inflation down so that people will save more money. . By bringing vegetables, fruits etc prices down is not the solution. . This hardly effects. If government is serious thrn make a law that no flat owner will charge more thsn 7000.. this will help people in savings. For ex I earn 40k and pay rent 18k. This hurts my budget.
