Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Share your ideas and opinions on how to increase the demand for Indian silk in the country as well as abroad by exploring new products, designs, markets, fashion, trends, promotion measures, target groups, etc.

State financial Corporation's has been constituted by SFC's Act, 1951 by the parliament & played a vital role in Small Scale Industrial development & employment generation in different States of India. Unfortunately, State Government's policies are not supportive to State Financial Corporation's & SIDBI also not played vital role in proper management of SFC's. That's why they become sick. Govt. of India take note of it & feed back SFC's properly so that SFC's work properly for growth of SSI's.

Sir it is very surprising that some political party leaders are using the Taj Mahal for their political benefit and are trying to use in favour or particular religion which is not good for National harmony and integrity

Just look at the Khadi and Village Industries board...while khadi cotton fabrics are being sold by private manufacturers as stylish wear...the original creator of khadi wear is languishing in terms of their offerings. In today's consumer driven world, you have to offer an attractive product to be able to generate sales

No one can question the demand of silk..within the country for sure. Just look at the number of silk sarees sold. Majority of these sales are through the Private Sector, and are successful because they are run as business enterprises and are run as profitable enterprises. If the Silk Board can be galvanised to run as the management board of a profit-making organisation, then and only then can the objective of social empowerment of the lowest common denominators in the Silk industry be met.

For the revival of the Silk market, we have to decreases its production cost & would need to enhance the availability of designs. Production cost can be decreased by increasing the productivity of the workers through skill development and 'Silk Designing' like syllabus can be introduced in institutes like NIFT's and NID which will enhance the availability of designs over the period of time. Then, there exhibitions should be done both in India & abroad showcasing the improved and economic quality
