Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Share your ideas and opinions on how to increase the demand for Indian silk in the country as well as abroad by exploring new products, designs, markets, fashion, trends, promotion measures, target groups, etc.

We are involved in textile weaving industry, we are facing the unhealthy and unfair competition due to vast difference in between high tension electric rates and low tension electric rates. There is around difference of rs 3 / unit. Kindly give ur precious attention into this matter.

Modiji, Thanks for highlighting issues of physically challenged people. One major need for millions of hearing impaired people is availability of less expensive Cochlear implants. Currently we have only foreign ones at a cost of Rs 5 lakhs each. DRDO was about to produce one in India itself for Rs 1 lakh each. This project has not moved for the past 3 years. Can you please take this up and help millions of poor hearing impaired people. Thank you!

DRDO has been forced to abandon developing Cochlear implants indigenously in India as it would cost 1/5th of what Multinationals are charging. Modiji please help millions of hearing impaired poor people in India!

In the era of Internet, government can opt for starting Ecommerce websites through which marketing these traditional products will be very easy. Such initiatives will directly help the poor artisans whose product will be sold throughout the world directly without any intermediate person. This will help government to generate revenues too like Ecommerce giants Flipkart, snapdeal etc.Marketing products with theme of being Indian and helping the poor artisans will surely turn out into good response.
