Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Share your ideas and opinions on how to increase the demand for Indian silk in the country as well as abroad by exploring new products, designs, markets, fashion, trends, promotion measures, target groups, etc.

29th September 2014 To Prime Minister of India Subject: Requirement of out of Box thinking Dear Sir In the earlier elections people of India have given thumping majority to current ruling party after several decades of alliance government. This shows that people of republic of India have several expectations from Govt of India. But I am saddened with the way the things are been handled like in case of crude prices. Taking advantage of current softening of crude prices the government should have created a war chest of cash for funding of infrastructure projects with out reducing petrol /diesel prices. The differential amount in between market prices and fair price should be funded to NHAI which would have made it cash rich and enable it to create additional length of roads which would have reduced bottelnecks in transportation sector. Making NHAI cash rich would have given following advantages • Creation of additional length of roads which would have helped in faster mobility of people,Goods & services • Creation of employee opportunities to people • Reducing wastage of food and articles specially perishable goods • This may help to abolish toll because of which lots of time is wasted resulting in decrease in fuel consumption • There will not be instance where in the price will have to be hiked because of sudden increase in international crude prices • People will get good and better roads which will help in increase in mielage thus decreasing import of crude which is burnt because of bottlenecks • NHAI being govt organization there is no question of misappropriation of funds • This will result that money in country remains in country The current policy is disastrous because of following • Due to reduction in prices people will buy more and more vehicles which will increase in consumption of crude and thus increase in foreign exchange outgo • Since roads available will be one and same same will result in traffic jams which will increase in crude consumption because of bottleneks • It will result that we will be financing other countries rather than using the funds for upliftment of indian people

we can make good quality silk products , by creating silk centres in the silk manufaturing areas by promoting, marketing the silk items. we can give separate brand names of the silk from the respective cities. we can create a website for the silk centers , so that everyone can acquire the related information regarding silk items with its original cost and tests can also be prescribed to identify the whether the silk is original or not .

this has been a great concerned because earlier India is 2 biggest importor of silk but can be improve by some broadcasting and affilating the silk product .since the root cause of the problem of this is that it is to costaly to for a common person its demand can be increase by making it more available for technology so that it could be cheeper but not at the cost of handicraft man and making it more fashioned so that it can withdraw the attention of glamour industary

Though silk and hand looms are costly, poor weavers are not getting benefit out of it. Only intermediaries are getting benefited. Govt should adopt villages famous for silk and handloom like kancheepuram, banaras etc and should provide technical expertise to the weavers. Direct marketing should be done through govt channel so that we can reduce cost and it would become more popular. This would also prevent weavers shifting to other jobs because of non profit from industry.

Please request to all priests to prefer khadi and silk in any religious activities if cloths are required. Please request to corporates to introduce product for religious purpose in khadi and silk. Fabric is fabric. Color does make difference in religious activities and not type of fabric.
