Disaster Mitigation and Management Training must be provided to all citizens, which can play an important role in developing a stand by force in preventing / conducting rescue missions in affected areas. We are still very far in comparison from developed countries. We need to understand that disaster is not limited to natural calamities only but can be a result of human error and poor planning.

In the series of earthquakes that struck northern India recently, what I noticed in people around me was a general tendency to get baffled and start running haphazardly, if we continue doing this, there will be more deaths due to stampede than the tragedy that has struck. Thus, I feel there should be more mock drills for every strata of society ie in school and college for students, teachers and staff. (1/2) #YouthDevelopment, #DisasterMitigation

DEAR PM, I AM SHARING MY VIEWS TO INCREASE ENGAGEMENT OF YOUTH IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT. 1) THERE SHOULD BE COMPULSORY TRAINING FOR EACH STUDENT AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE IN A YEAR, SHOWING THEM HOW TO STAY SAFE DURING DISASTERS LIKE EARTHQUAKE, TSUNAMI, ETC 2) A COMPULSORY CERTIFICATION OF CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation)TRAINING PROGRAMME TO EACH STUDENT TO SAVE LIFE IN SUCH DISASTER. 3) USE SURAXA SETU SOCIETY OF POLICE DEPARMENT IN EACH DIST. AND INVOLVE YOUTH IN SUCH ACTIVITY.

There should be basic training given to all the youth starting from school level. Inaddition, basic course on civic sense, following rules and regulation, eg: traffic regulation, cleanliness etc should be mandated. It should be imbibed in these children by using the role plays and keeping a book of good activities that are suggested inline with practices at Bharat scouts & guides etc.

conducting mock drills & participating in it on a COMPULSORY basis will provide the necessary mechanism so that the people are aware as to exactly what to do in such situations!
