एनईपी 2020 में की गई सिफारिशों के अनुसार, यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए मानकों का एक सेट विकसित किया गया है कि स्कूली शिक्षा के सभी स्तरों पर सभी छात्रों को उच्च योग्य और पेशेवर रूप से प्रशिक्षित शिक्षकों द्वारा पढ़ाया जाए।

राष्ट्रीय व्यावसायिक मानक (एनपीएसटी) करियर के विभिन्न स्तरों पर शिक्षकों की विशेषताओं को निर्धारित करने में मदद करेगा। इसके अलावा, एनपीएसटी सभी शिक्षकों की तैयारी, अभ्यास और प्रदर्शन में सुधार के प्रयासों पर केंद्रित है। मानक और संबंधित नीतियां सभी को उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली शिक्षा प्रदान करने के लिए एनईपी 2020 में दिए गए मूलभूत सिद्धांतों के अनुरूप हैं। एनसीटीई को एनपीएसटी के संचालन के लिए मंच प्रदान करने और मार्गदर्शक दस्तावेज के तौर पर मंत्रालय द्वारा अनिवार्य किया गया है।

शिक्षकों के लिए राष्ट्रीय व्यावसायिक मानक (एनपीएसटी), भूतपूर्व शिक्षकों के कार्यक्रम के डिजाइन की निगरानी करेगा। यह राज्यों द्वारा तभी अपनाया जा सकता है और शिक्षक कैरियर प्रबंधन के सभी पहलुओं को निर्धारित कर सकता है, जिसमें कार्यकाल, पेशेवर विकास प्रयास, वेतन वृद्धि, पदोन्नति और अन्य मान्यताएं शामिल हैं।

इस संबंध में, विभिन्न डोमेन के विशेषज्ञों से प्राप्त विचारों और सुझावों को शामिल करने के बाद एनसीटीई द्वारा एनपीएसटी पर एक मसौदा दस्तावेज निर्मित किया गया है। सभी हितधारकों से सुझाव और प्रतिक्रिया आमंत्रित करने के लिए मसौदा दस्तावेज 17 नवंबर, 2021 को जारी किया गया है।
