MyGov Talk with Hon. Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar on Climate Change

In the run-up to COP (Conference of Parties) 21 scheduled in Paris from 30th November to 11th December 2015, MyGov and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change are pleased to announce a MyGov Talk with the Honourable Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar on the 26th October 2015 at 5.00PM in collaboration with Google India.

With India's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), the country is keen to attempt to work towards a low carbon emission pathway, while simultaneously endeavouring to meet all the developmental challenges that the country faces today. The INDC aims at promoting clean energy, especially renewable energy, enhancement of energy efficiency, development of less carbon intensive and resilient urban centres, promotion of waste to wealth, safe, smart and sustainable green transportation network, abatement of pollution and India’s efforts to enhance carbon sink through creation of forest and tree cover.

Citizens are invited to share their ideas, questions and inputs on India's role in COP21 and on the following proposals laid down by INDC:

• Sustainable Lifestyles
• Cleaner Economic Development
• Reduce Emission intensity of Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
• Increase the Share of Non Fossil Fuel Based Electricity
• Enhancing Carbon Sink (Forests)
• Adaptation
• Mobilizing Finance
• Technology Transfer and Capacity Building

Selected ideas and names would also be mentioned by the Hon. Minister and other experts during the MyGov Talk.
Contributors from MyGov, Climate Change Experts, senior journalists and social media influencers will join the panel discussion with Shri Prakash Javadekar.

With respect to all, I am ojit, Assistant professor RAMJAS college, D. U. I am sharing some thoughts 1. Every action or actions cannot be defended by economic benefit (s). However every species can be defended for the services it provides to us. So I strongly believe that conservation of biodiversity will provide for us a secured future and a tremendously liveable Earth for every one of us. 2.Knowledge helps perform our duties. Education n awareness of environment must be our priority.

Like mobile revolution I.e. Self propagating because of being very economical while being viable, new renewable technology is need of the order. Imagine like mobile phones renewable energy tech is there for all homes , superior to solar Pv panels , the scenario. New solutions are there but no way to implement these break throughs. Govt. should come forward to support these vital leads ,need concrete measures ,invite proposals .

Please ban plastic bags in all its shapes and sizes. I know its very hard to find a replacement, but we had managed in earlier times when there were no plastic bags. Plastic packaging should only be allowed for wet and viscous items such as milk, curd, etc., but not for dry items. Nowadays we find every other item covered with plastic coverings like clothes, household items, even seats of a new car. Please ban such rampant use of plastic covers. It will help save environment a lot.

There is a scope to save power to the extent of 15 to 20%. Govt should give more incentives for this. One unit saved is equal to three units produced. Hence the saved power is equal to 45% production. We can get carbon credit of re. One per unit.This amount should be passed on directly in to accounts of consumers who save power. We have big plans. Unfortunately we fail in implementation.

With regard to INDC goals, my queries pertain to 2 items: • Mobilizing Finance: I find this is a major impediment for NRIs like me and small Indian enterprises who wanted to set-up businesses in our RE sector. • Tech Transfer, Capacity Building: This is easier said than done unless matching initiatives are designed and executed. Also, the initiatives should sustain for 10-15 years with only periodic refinements rather than sudden abandonment. Can we expect new actions on this from our Govt?

Make audit of energy/nonrenewable resource usage compulsory and put enforcement in the hands of grassroot representatives which have teeth. Green all unused flat rooftops of buildings in urban areas to mitigate the urban heat island effect. Use government funding for technologies like electric drive/batteries, fuel cell, geothermal, wave energy, wind energy and other emerging technologies. Introduce Sustainability/energy conservation topics in schools

5 things needs to be taken care as JV between The Govt & The Fellow Citizens On War Foot Front Basis. Else both the present & next generation will be at risk. 1.Increase Green Cover - Protect The Last Remaining Flora & Fauna. 2.DONT Approve Any Projects Of Any Scale In The Forest Areas. 3.Implement projects on rain water harvesting & water body protection & rejuvenation. 4.BAN Plastic bags immediately. 5.Environmental Education Should Be Made Mandatory For students From Class I to XII.
