Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Share your ideas and opinions on how to increase the demand for Indian silk in the country as well as abroad by exploring new products, designs, markets, fashion, trends, promotion measures, target groups, etc.

All Silk weavers in India must be encouraged to produce more silk products. They must get help from state government. They must get a chance to put stalls in all Government Cultural programs. Registered Silk weavers must be allowed to have tie up with all major hotels to sell their products to foreign nationals. Like Khadi Bhavan a Silk Bhavan can be started by State Government and sell quality products locally at reasonable rates. This will give job opportunity to poor weavers.Pls consider this.

Encourage the use of silk Indianwear as 'business formals' for men as well. Today, a silk sari is an accepted business formal wear for Indian women at work. There is no reason except mindset that prevents silk shirt and dhoti or kurta pyjamas from being formalwear for men. The trend can be encouraged in govt offices first. This will replace expensive imported wool used in suits etc.Fashion houses and formal wear manufacturers such as Raymond can be roped in to promote this concept.

inside india, if you reduce income tax, large number of persons, will have disposable income and then they can purchase silk products. solutions are very simple and is known to government also. but it is continously increasing the tax burden of citizens. BJP follows policy of minimum taxation maximum prosperity of citizens. the test of this policy will be budget of FY2015-16.
