Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Share your ideas and opinions on how to increase the demand for Indian silk in the country as well as abroad by exploring new products, designs, markets, fashion, trends, promotion measures, target groups, etc.

We have IIHT institution but we have no production unit in that. We have to review the Marketing Policy, Proper Quality Monitoring, Well Designers should be appointed, And the product should be reachable everywhere. And digitization of the Production Unit & the workers should be benefited. And Lastly now a days the product should be available in Online Marketing System.

Styling, cut, quality and finishing of garments to meet international standards. Correcting the perception that it is difficult and expensive to maintain. (our ladies have washed silk on washing stones for years together)

We should get good designer silk sarees for less price. So, automatically women will opt for silk sarees. Any given day women first preference is silk saree and its little costler so we go for other materials. I strongly recommend the silk board to train the silk industry how to produce a designer but cheaper price product

Central Government should create uploading of information facility in all manufacturing places about the quantity produced with rate offered for such quantity by the producer. This information should be made compulsory uploading by all etailors by Central Goverment. This will ensure better price to the producers and consumers in India and abroad. This will reduce middlemen profiteering. This will facilitate to increase more supply to match with demand. Unnecessary production will also be stopped which will reduce burden on the supplier investment.
