Part 7/9: INTERNATIONAL MARKETING:
Now, just as they have made a mark in adjoining states & have expanded the business for SILK in the region, the same marketing & BRAND BUILDING strategy sd be worked further for taking the SILK beyond Indian borders. Int. market would bring much needed Foreign Exchange too! IF INTERNATIONAL BRANDS CAN ENTER INDIAN MARKET & CAN HOLD A SWAY OVER OUR YOUNGSTERS, WHY NOT INDIAN SILK COS AIM FOR A SIMILAR BRAND BUILDING FOR SILK CLOTHING IN THE INT. MARKET.

Part 8/9: ROPING & ROBING INTERNATIONAL CELEBRITIES AS SILK CLOTHING MODELS:
Let’s ‘ROPE & ROBE’ few international celebrities / popular figures in SILK KURTA/SAREES – for marketing Silk clothing. We are used to see them in Int. Brands & buy it in malls! Why not try vice versa? May be, we should have such MODELING & MARKETING, & at the same time, apt outlets in international market or through e-commerce portals as well, for promoting silk clothes in the International Market.

Part 9/9: WEAR SILK CLOTHES@INTERNATIONAL EVENTS:
May be our cine celebrities could help to POPULARIZE SILK SAREES/KURTAS – We’re all used 2 see them in GLOWING SILK SAREES/KURTAS while they attend film festivals held in Goa, Kolkatta, Delhi etc; But, have we ever seen any of them wearing SILK SAREES/KURTAS when they attend film festivals held in Cannes, Toronto, Berlin etc. By wearing silk, they can help 2 SHOWCASE NOT ONLY ‘INDIAN SILK’ BUT ALSO ENHANCE THE CULTURAL &TRADITION OF INDIA ABROAD!

E-commerce today constitutes a major part of commercial activity not only in India but across the world. For selling Indian silk products across the globe, giant online shopping portals both national and global can play a key role. Besides national retail outlets can also be encouraged to highlight the importance of Indian silk by offering attractive discounts, holding silk festivals etc.

1. Increase cocoons productivity
2. Employing technology for enhancing production
3. Quality based pricing
4. Employing effective pesticide management
5. Proper incentives to persons working in labour intensive, agro based cottage industry.
Besides, India needs to create a brand name for its silk products across the globe by massive advertising of the quality, value and worth of Indian silk.

It also needs to reduce import of raw silk from China which currently has 81.9 percent silk production as compared to 15 percent of India. Of all the silk varieties, the highest production in India is that of mulberry silk. India needs to increase production of other silk varieties viz tasar, vanya and eri silk across the major silk producing clusters- Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, West Bengal by taking the following steps:

India is the second largest producer of raw silk in the world after China. Eighty percent of the silk production is consumed domestically and that too mainly in sarees. India needs to increase its production of silk (around the globe and specially in countries with cold weather conditions since wearing silk is suited in not so hot and humid weather conditions) not only in sarees but also in other products like shirts, cravets, ties etc.

A certification on indian made silk.Organisation of international fashion shows based on Silk India concept, invite the who's who of International fashion designers and ask them to work on clothes on the theme and make it a big event. This will make Indian Silk fabrics and motifs internationally famous. However before organising such shows it is imperative that Indian cloth styles like Khadi etc are all protected by Geographical indications tag.
