Between the silk weaving mills in the town of Kanchipuram to the large showrooms in large cities across India are multitude of middlemen who make more money as "brokers" than the actual artisans. Prime Minister Modi's government must build a model for a single window clearance - middlemen must be less greedy; must charge a rightful fee, but not fleece the artisans.

Sir, Asia, especially India & China have been the centers of the silk industry for centuries. We are flooded with chinese silk / zari, needs to be stopped. It would work wonders, if our production cost is brought down, raw materials made available, artisans provided adequate monetary & infrastructure support. GI tags should be obtained for specific varieties, to prevent counterfeiting. Expositions can be held in fashion capitals with greater access between material sourcers & silk co-operatives.

I have heard that 60,000 cacoons have to be boiled to get enough silk to make a 5 meter silk sari! Do we have to promote this over and on par with Khadhi?

There is already need for Indian skill sets in different parts of the world. For example people suffer from Lower back pain and it has been proved by randomized controlled trails that YOGA is the cheapest treatment for Chronic Lower back pain. Americans spend $50 billion on Lower back pain treatment. Please train nurses in yoga so that they can attend such lower back pain patients in America. Apart spending on diabetes is also high. So yoga therapists can be trained for US market.

Introduce to wear a silk Kurta Pajama (Batik or plain) once in a week among Indian celebrities. Regularly introduce the silk products in Bollywood and Hollywood production. At every festival time, just launch a new silk product, which will aim for the youth and senior citizens of India. At every student convocation or fair, display silk product through the wearing suit of the organizers as well. At abroad, induct some excellent fashion designers for making some silk masterpieces for demand.
