Silk, the Queen of textiles, is adored by all for its sheer sheen, luster, elegance, class and comfort. It has several natural properties like natural sheen, inherent affinity for dyes and vibrant colours, light weight, resilience and excellent drape etc. which makes it distinct from all other fibers both natural and man-made. Though silk products are consumed more by urban rich, its production is highly employment oriented, low capital intensive and remunerative that churns out value added products of economic importance, especially the rural people.

India is the second largest producer of silk in the world and the silk industry provides employment to about 7.8 million people in the rural and semi-urban areas in the country. The women participation in various activities in silk value chain is about 54%. The silk always attracts competition from synthetic fibers, though which look like silk.

Pull in NIFT who can contribute to the popularization of SILK. Marketing is non-existent. Need to have a brand ambassador who can promote silk products. No easy access to silk products online.

Make all cooperatives and producers who get any form of govt subsidy mandatorily sell through eCommerce sites also; This should pave way for a nation wide market for remote small time producers at the same time increased competition means lower prices and higher quality

Participating in Textile industry related exhibitions all over the world. Identifying areas of potential customers and marketing to them directly. Using NRI groups to help in promotion. Ensuring that the tourists are not cheated while they buy such products. Innovation of a variety of designs that could reach the modern young society. Liaisoning with fashion houses and brand houses to promote these products by breaking the stigma that silk is only for puja and temples.

We Indians, irrespective of race and religion do perform 'PUJA'. Various articles related to this can be prepared. This can contribute additional market share.

Sir, Sharing an idea on how post office can be big player in e-commerce, we can get Post Bank a subsidary of post office, which will help in lending to silk products, then we have a online portal like Amazon be created, we have the post office network to connect to various villages so that small business gets connected to rest of India. Partner with Leading Designer Houses and Film Producers of Hollywood, so that they have Indian Silk line up at their fashion weeks and also famous movie franchises showcase Indian silk. This will attract global attention. Iphone became a coveted brand also because all Hollywood movies had its use.

The quality of the silk should be good and the price should be such that people can afford to buy it.The silk board should produce some limited edition silk products and attract customers. They should do huge advertisement.
